Actress Shim Eun Kyung is reportedly back in consideration for the female lead role in the Korean drama adaptation of ‘Nodame Cantabile’, after the withdrawal of Girls’ Generation’s YoonA yesterday. Shim’s agency revealed that they have indeed received the offer from the team, and are now actively in discussions, and no decision has been taken as yet.
Shim Eun Kyung was last seen in the movie ‘Miss Granny’ which received over 8 million viewers when it aired earlier this year. The Korean drama adaptation of ‘Nodame Cantabile’ is a remake of the Fuji TV adaptation of the same name, and will be shown through KBS 2TV in the Monday-Tuesday evening prime-time slot.
‘Nodame Cantabile’ is a manga by Tomoko Ninomiya, and revolves around classical music. It was adapted into a live-action drama by Fuji TV in Japan back in 2006, and was headlined by famous stars like Hiroshi Tamaki and Juri Ueno, and became well-loved by viewers.
Shim Eun Kyung had originally turned down ‘Nodame Cantabile’ as it clashed with the filming schedules for her movie ‘Waiting for You’. But with filming schedules for ‘Waiting for You’ delayed from August until the latter half of this year, the team for ‘Nodame Cantabile’ has once again turned to Shim Eun Kyung, hoping that she will accept the offer the second time round.
If Shim Eun Kyung does sign on for ‘Nodame Cantabile’, she will be going up against one of the most anticipated mega drama of the second half of 2014, SBS TV ‘Secret Door’.
‘Secret Door’ is a story about King Yeongjo of the Joseon Dynasty who insists on a strong royal authority, but his son, Crown Prince Sado, insists on equality for all instead, as they find themselves facing off with contrasting ideals. Han Suk Kyu, Kim Min Jong, and Wang Bit Na have so far been confirmed for the drama. Besides boasting of a strong ensemble cast, there is also much anticipation on the production side as it will be directed by Kim Hyeong Sik (Ghost, Sign), while the script will be handled by screen writer Yoon Sun Joo (The Great King Sejong, Immortal Admiral Yi Sun Shin).
So will there be a face-off between ‘8 million girl’ Shim Eun Kyung and ‘acting genius’ Han Suk Kyu? We will just have to wait and see.
Meanwhile, Joo Won, Baek Yoon Sik, and Tiny-G’s Min Do Hee have been confirmed for ‘Nodame Cantabile’, and the drama is scheduled to greet viewers this October through KBS 2TV.
